In the opening encounter of the 5-match T20I series on Thursday, November 23, in Visakhapatnam, the Indian cricket team secured a convincing 2-wicket victory against Australia. The Men in Blue now take the lead with a 1-0 advantage in the series. The thrilling contest set the stage for what promises to be an exciting battle between two cricketing giants in the upcoming matches.

Talking about the match, In his debut match as captain, Suryakumar Yadav won the toss and opted to field against Australia. The opening duo of Steve Smith and Matthew Short began strongly, with Short losing his wicket to Ravi Bishnoi in the 5th over. Subsequently, Josh Inglis, Australia’s wicketkeeper-batter, emerged at no. 3, seizing control of the game. 

Inglis accelerated to a brisk half-century in just 29 balls, forming a formidable partnership with Smith. The pair amassed 130 runs in a mere 66 balls for the second wicket, with Smith contributing 36 off 23. After Smith’s departure at 52 off 41, Inglis continued his onslaught, reaching a century in just 47 balls—matching Aaron Finch’s record for the fastest T20I century by an Australian. Australia concluded their innings with an imposing total of 208 runs.

Chasing the target, India faced a challenging start with Ruturaj Gaikwad run out without facing a delivery in the opening over. Yashasvi Jaiswal, showing promise, fell in the 3rd over. Mumbai Indians’ pair, Suryakumar Yadav and Ishan Kishan, then forged an impressive 112-run partnership for the 2nd wicket. 

Despite Kishan’s departure after a half-century, Suryakumar continued his boundary-hitting spree, crafting a splendid innings of 80 runs off 42 balls, featuring 9 fours and 4 sixes. Although he couldn’t finish the match, Rinku Singh guided the team to victory by holding one end steady.
