Ricky Ponting gave a huge update on Rishabh Pant’s participation in the 17th edition of the IPL. Ponting was in an interview recently where he spoke about the same. The Head coach of Delhi Capitals felt that Pant is confident of returning to play very soon. However, Ricky was not sure of the capacity in which Pant would be available for DC in the IPL 2024.

Rishabh Pant is very confident that he’s going to be right to play. In what capacity we’re not quite sure yet,” said Ponting. The former Australian skipper was recently appointed the Head Coach of Washington Freedom in Major League Cricket 2024, which is set to happen later this year. During the press meet for the same, Ponting was asked about Pant.

Ponting praised Pant for trying to be fit to play as soon as possible. He claimed “You would have seen all the social-media stuff, he’s up and about and running well,” said the legendary Australian. He further added that since the IPL 2024 is just six weeks away from starting, they are not sure if Pant can keep the wickets for them or even lead them as a skipper.

‘We’ll keep our fingers crossed’ – Ricky Ponting

“But in saying that we’re only six weeks away from the first game as well. So, we’re not sure if we’ll get wicketkeeping out of him this year,” Punter added. He was appreciative of the fact that Pant was ready to give his best for the team. Ponting claimed that Pant would be ready to keep the wickets if asked to. Ponting appreciated the selflessness of the Delhi Capitals player.

“But I’ll guarantee if I asked him now, he’ll say, ‘I’m playing every game, I’m keeping every game and I’m batting at No.4.’ That’s just what he’s like, but we’ll keep our fingers crossed,” said Ponting as he was hopeful of the fitness of the star player. Pant would be key for the success of DC in the IPL 2024 despite not being in the most fit version of himself.
