Black Adam was released in India today and here are first-hand reviews and reactions.

Synopsis: Teth-Adam gains superpowers from wizards, which enable him to become the hero in a subjugated ancient Kahndaq that is ruled by the cruel monarch Anh-Kot. He is, however, incarcerated for 5,000 years when he exploits his abilities for vengeance. Accidentally reading an incantation awakens Adam in contemporary Kahndaq, which the paramilitary group Intergang has taken control of. The freedom fighter then begs Adam to free Kahndaq. The Justice Society—Hawkman, Dr. Fate, Atom Smasher, and Cyclone—are on the prowl to stop him and restore world peace as his vision of justice emerges from his wrath.

According to Times of India, Black Adam has a very predictable plot since the audience has watched so many superhero movies over the years. An almost indestructible and angry superhero with an obvious dark history, a bad monarch in the search of a magic crystal, freedom fighters who are fighting for their land and people and last but not the least a group of superheroes trying to contain the chaos. Sounds familiar? Obviously. But what saves Black Adam from becoming just another superhero movie are the visuals and seamless action sequences. Right from the beginning until the end.

Director Jaume Collet-Serra should have focused on the plot and storyline of the film more than the visuals since this movie is the introduction to the new ‘Justice Society of America.’

Black Adam does not give a proper introduction to Carter Hall/Hawkman (Aldis Hodge), Kent Nelson or Dr Fate (Pierce Brosnan), Albert Rothstein or Atom Smasher (Noah Centineo), Maxine Hunkel or Cyclone (Quintessa Swindell) and their superpowers. Audiences can expect spin offs with these characters.

The movie is a little exhausting since it has so many sub plots but then again the music of the movie keeps you hooked. Dwayne Johnson was definitely a good choice for Black Adam. TOI gives Black Adam 3 out of 5 stars.

As per Hindustan Times, Black Adam feels like something out of a children’s bedtime stories book. This movie shouldn’t have been Dwayne Johnson’s debut into the superhero world. The movie just added more hiccups to the already bumpy DCEU. It’s never established what Black Adam is actually. Is he a hero? a villain? or an anti-hero?

Not to mention the Rock looks extremely dull as compared to his roles in movies like Jumanji, Journey 2 or Hobbs from the Fast and the Furious franchise. The film lacks good direction. There are a few moments that keep you on the edge of your seat and let us know what Black Adam both the movie and the character could have been. All he does is show up in the movie.

To contain the chaos we have the Justice Society of America. Hawkman is the only character worth watching since Dr. Fate aka The Fate has a role with no significance and he looks sad in the superhero costume. Noah Centenio plays the role of The Atom Smasher and Quintessa Swindell plays Cyclone. Noah provides some comic relief and Cyclone is just there basically. To sum it up, this movie is just everything that can go wrong with superhero films.
