India cricketers Ishan Kishan and Shreyas Iyer are in danger of losing the central contracts of the Indian Cricket Board. The former hasn’t played the game since November last year after being rested for a few T20Is against Australia. He was selected for the all-format tour of South Africa. However, Kishan pulled out of the series due to mental fatigue that happened due to traveling but not getting enough chances.

Sources close to the wicketkeeper stated that because he was not getting chances, he had to pull out but wanted to play the Test series against the Proteas. Apparently, the sources told The Indian Express that he wanted to rest for the white-ball games and refresh for the Tests. However, the team management didn’t allow him to do so. This is the reason he decided to pull out. Since then, the former India U19 skipper hasn’t played in the ongoing Ranji Trophy.

The same has been the case with Shreyas Iyer, who missed the ongoing Quarterfinal match for Mumbai against Baroda. Notably, Iyer cited a back injury but in the email exchange between the board and the NCA, the right-hander is fit.

Shreyas Iyer and Ishan Kishan likely to be removed from central contracts

The India middle-order batters are likely to be removed from the central contracts. The selection committee, led by the T20 World Cup 2007 winner, Ajit Agarkar will finalise the players who will get the central contracts.

“The selectors, led by Ajit Agarkar, have almost finalised the list of centrally-contracted players for the 2023-24 season too, which the Board will announce soon. Kishan and Iyer are likely to be excluded from that list, as both haven’t been playing domestic cricket despite the Board’s diktat to do so,” a source was quoted as saying by Times of India.

A while back, board secretary, Jay Shah warned the players about the consequences of missing the Ranji Trophy unless they have fitness issues.
