Records broken during India’s win

  1. South Africa registers lowest Test score since re-admission

The Proteas were removed from international cricket due to South Africa’s apartheid policies in 1971. 20 years later, the team returned after the Apartheid era came to an end. They were one of the Test teams across the globe and their status was reinstated right after re-admission. Before the Apartheid era, they registered their lowest Test, i.e. 30 all-out against England in Gqeberha in 1896. In the recently concluded Test, they were bowled out for 55 runs.

2. Shortest Test-match ever

The recently-concluded game concluded within the first two days. Precisely, the game ended in the fifth session of the Test, i.e. in the second session of the second Day. Talking about the overs bowled during the game, both teams combined for 107 overs bowled during the game. With this, the Cape Town Test became the shortest game in the history of Tests. During the infamous 1932 series between South Africa and Australia, both teams bowled 109.2 overs.

3. Joint-most ducks in an innings

During the first innings, six Indian batters bagged a duck. This is the joint-most ducks by a team in a Test match. Pakistan did the same against the West Indies in 1980, South Africa did it against India in 1996. Bangladesh suffered the same against the Maroon Brigade in 2002, and India did the same against England in 2014. Five years back, New Zealand did the same against Pakistan and Bangladesh did the same against Sri Lanka and West Indies in 2022.
