India’s star off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin revealed the toughest batter to bowl to in the death overs. As India clinched a thrilling win in the 3rd T20I against Afghanistan, Ashwin spoke about it on his YouTube channel and analyzed how India won it. One of the key talking points was the performance of Rohit Sharma with the bat in the first 20 overs and later in both the super overs.

Rohit was 57(49) at one stage and scored hefty in the death overs. The Indian opener scored 64 runs in his last 20 balls and helped India to reach a score of 212 runs after being reduced to 22/4 at one stage. Along with Rinku Singh at the other end, Sharma framed a 190-run stand for the 5th wicket. India scored a whopping 103 runs in the last five overs of the match.

Ashwin praised the way Rohi adapted himself to different situations in the match. The star spinner pointed out that Rohit anchored the innings when wickets were falling at the other end and went bonkers after getting set. The right-arm off-spinner went on to claim Rohit as the toughest batter to bowl against in the death overs for any bowler. Ashwin claimed that it was nearly impossible to bowl to Rohit at the death.

“I have said this before, it’s impossible to bowl to a set Rohit Sharma in the last four overs, whoever the bowler is,” said Ashwin. The experienced player recalled how Sharma hit sixes against Tim Southee in 2020 in the Super Over which was won by India. When 9 runs were needed in the last two balls, Rohit hit consecutive sixes and won India the match against New Zealand.

Ashwin analyzed the range of shots Rohit has to attack the bowlers. He added that the bowlers cannot commit slight mistakes against the Indian batter. “Length balls can be pulled. Towards the body, he can play the pick-up pull. If your short ball is sailing in front of the wicket, a little fuller and wider, you are going to see a loft over covers. If you miss the yorker, confirm six,” added Ashwin.
