For the first time between India and Afghanistan, a game was tied between these teams across all formats of the game. In the third T20I on January 17, the home team won the toss and elected to bat first. However, they lost four wickets for 22 runs and were staring down an upset. However, skipper Rohit Sharma scored an unbeaten hundred and Rinku Singh hit a fifty remaining unbeaten.

They helped the team recover from 22/4 to 212/4. In reply, despite the slow start, the visitors managed to level the score, thanks to former captains, Gulbadin Naib and Mohammad Nabi. Both teams went into the Super Over and the Afghans scored 16/1. However, on the last ball of the over, Nabi took a triple as the ball deflected off him.

While the likes of Sharma and Virat Kohli, the umpires gave it a bye as it was within the rules. Meanwhile, Nabi’s act was defended by none other than India’s head coach, Rahul Dravid

“No, it’s fine. It’s part of the game. It can be frustrating if you are at the receiving end but it’s okay, it happens. I think you can [run] for those. There was an incident in the first match where I think it hit the bat of one of our batters and we ran a run. Nothing in the rules that stops you from running those runs,” he told reporters.

Furthermore, India managed to get only 16/1, to extend the game in the second one-over Eliminator. In the second time around, the home team batted first and got 11/2. In reply, the visitors managed 1/2, losing by 10 runs. With this, the winner was finally separated after the longest T20I game.
