Ranking captains ahead of the Asia Cup 2023
The top 6 Asian teams are set to be in action in the upcoming Asia Cup 2023. The tournament will begin on August 30 and will be jointly hosted by Pakistan and Sri Lanka. Interestingly, the tournament was supposed to be entirely hosted by Pakistan earlier but India refused to travel to Pakistan after which Sri Lanka became the co-host.
Asia Cup 2023 will see many big names from all the 6 nations which are participating in it. In cricket, the team mostly rely on the captain’s decisions, however, the leadership role doesn’t play much role during the batting innings. But the real test of the captain happens when the team is bowling/fielding. On that note, let’s rank all 6 captains ahead of the Asia Cup 2023.
6. Rohit Paudel
Nepal created history as they qualified for the Asia Cup 2023 after they became the winner of the ACC Men’s Premier Cup. Nepal’s skipper Rohit Paudel displayed brilliant leadership skills and helped his team to qualify for the Asia Cup 2023. He will be seen leading the side in the tournament as well, however, he doesn’t have much experience.
5. Hashmatullah Shahidi
Afghanistan ODI squad in the Asia Cup 2023 will be led by veteran right-handed batter Hashmatullah Shahidi. He recently led his team in a 3-match ODI series against Bangladesh where the Afghan side won the series 2-1. Shahid will now be seen leading his side in the Asia Cup 2023.
4. Dasun Shanaka
Sri Lanka’s star allrounder and skipper Dasun Shanka has been leading the side brilliantly in both ODI and T20I formats. He also led his team to win the Asia Cup last year. Apart from captaincy, Shanka also contributes much in both the bowling and batting departments.
3. Shakib Al Hasan
Banglaesh’s star allrounder Shakib Al Hasan was recently named the captain of the ODI squad as Tamim Iqbal left his captaincy. Shakib has led the side earlier and he has a lot of experience leading the side in big tournaments. The left-hander has led the team in 50 ODI matches in which the team won 23 matches.
2. Babar Azam
Pakistan veteran batter Babar Azam is one of the most talented cricketers in the world currently. His batting records are phenomenal but his leadership skills are also great. Babar has led Pakistan in 26 ODI matches in which the team won 17 matches. The Men in Green have performed brilliantly under Babar and the right-hander will surely help his team to win the upcoming Asia Cup 2023.
1. Rohit Sharma
India’s veteran opening batter Rohit Sharma has done very well while leading the Indian team so far. He has led the Indian team in 27 ODI matches and the team won 20 matches of them. Rohit is currently the most experienced cricketer in the Indian team along with Virat Kohli. Rohit has a bright chance to help the Indian team win the Asia Cup 2023.
