Pakistan skipper Babar Azam is currently playing for Colombo Strikers in the Lanka Premier League (LPL) 2023. Notably, some Pakistan cricketers are also involved in the Global T20 League in Canada. In a major revelation, his father recently revealed that Babar would have received for money in Canada than the LPL had he decided to play in GT20. However, Babar chose LPL over GT20 League because Sri Lanka would be co-hosting the crucial Asia Cup ODI 2023 and this was a good chance to get hold of the conditions in the island nation.

Popular Pakistani Sports Journalist Farid Khan tweeted the whole story on Twitter. He wrote, “Babar Azam’s father has confirmed via Instagram that he was getting more money in an offer to play 10 days in GT20 Canada in excellent weather than he’s getting in 25 days of Lanka Premier League in humid conditions in Sri Lanka, but Babar preferred to play in LPL because Pakistan have Asia Cup coming up in Sri Lanka and it would help him and his team in the World Cup too. Babar put Pakistan above money and his contract in Canada for the sake of the county. Ma Shaa Allah.  Alhamdulillah for Babar.”

Babar Azam recorded the slowest fifty in LPL history

Talking of Babar Azam’s current performances, he has played just two games for the Colombo Strikers in this year’s edition of the LPL. While he was dismissed for seven runs in the first game, he recorded the slowest fifty of LPL in 48 balls. He ended up scoring 59 off 52 and won the ‘Player of the Match’ award later in the game.

He also featured in the two-Test series that Pakistan won 2-0 vs Sri Lanka. Although Pakistan won the two games and went on to climb the summit of the World Test Championship 2023-25’s standings, Babar Azam could not trouble the scorers. He recorded scores of 13, 24, and 39 in three innings, respectively. However, he did score a brilliant 79-run knock in the warm-up game against Sri Lanka Cricket President’s XI.
