The young Indian Badminton sensation, Laksya Sen, won the Canada Open 2023 title after defeating the reigning All England champion Li Shi Feng of China on Sunday, July. He defeated Li in straight games win by 21-18 and 22-20. This was Sen’s second BWF World Tour title at the age of just 21 years.

Sen’s first victory came in this category since he won his first gold medal at the Commonwealth Games in August of last year. He is also the nation’s second singles champion this year after HS Prannoy’s triumph at the Malaysia Masters in May. Meanwhile, Sen talked about his win after the match and said that this win will boost his confidence for the upcoming Olympics.

“Coming into the Olympic qualification year, it was tough as things didn’t go my way. So this win will be a big boost to my confidence. I had to dig deep in some matches, the conditions were different and getting used to it was important,” Sem was quoted as saying by News 18.

P.V. Sindhu defeated in Semifinal

The senior Indian shuttler P.V. Sindhu, on the other side, was defeated by world number one Akane Yamaguchi of Japan in the women’s singles semifinal match. Sindhu, who is ranked 15th right now, dropped two games in a row with scores of 14-21 and 15-21. Sindhu lost to Yamaguchi for the second time in a row after she had lost to her in the Singapore Open’s first round.

Since her return from an injury layoff in January, Sindhu, who has been having trouble with subpar results on the world tour, has failed to win any championships. Before suffering an ankle injury, she last won at the Commonwealth Games in August 2022. She placed third at the Malaysia Masters and second at the Marid Spain Masters, respectively.
