Satwik-Chirag secure India’s First Men’s Doubles Medal At The Worlds

Chirag Shetty and Satwiksairaj Rankireddy entered the semi-finals of the ongoing BWF World Championships.

Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty on Friday became the first Indian pair to win a medal in the men’s doubles competition

The CWG Gold medalist pair of Satwik and Chirag stunned the local favorites and defending champions Takuro Hoki and Yugo Kobayashi 24-22 15-21 21-14

It was India’s second World Championships medal overall in doubles after Jwala Gutta and Ashwini Ponappa won it in 2011

Indian pair of MR Arjun and Dhruv Kapila lost its quarterfinal match to Mohammad Ahsan and Hendra Setiawan. The Indian duo lost 8-21, 14-21.

HS Prannoy bows out of BWF World Championships

India’s HS Prannoy was beaten by China’s Zhao Jun Peng in the quarterfinals of the men’s singles competition at the BWF World Championships on Friday

The pair had a decent lead before Takuro and Yugo made a strong comeback in the second game but the Indian pair held the momentum to fight back and win the game

The world no. 18 who had beaten his compatriot Lakshya Sen in a grueling round of 16 matches on Thursday, fell to Zhao 21-19, 6-21, 18-21.

Having assured themselves of at least a bronze, Satwik and Chirag will now face the sixth-seeded pair of Chia andYik in the semifinals.

“We don’t want to stop here. We want to go further. But this is what we were aiming for. We wanted to keep our body fit and do well,” Satwik told reporters after the match.

The Indian pair won the first game 24-22, before losing 15-21 and then winning 21-14

Saina Nehwal had already bowed out of the competition post her loss in a hard-fought women’s singles pre-quarterfinal match.
