Ben Stokes finally fired with the bat for England after having a series of low scores in the ongoing ODI World Cup 2023. The Southpaw scored his first-ever hundred in the ODI World Cup and helped England to post a good total against the Netherlands in the ODI World Cup 2023. On a good batting surface in Pune, Stokes hit some very good boundaries.

Batting first, England lost the wicket of Jonny Bairstow early. The opener could score only 15(17) and was undone by Aryan Dutt. Joe Root did not have a good day with the bat either. The number 3 of England scored 28 runs in 35 balls in his stay in the middle. After Root’s dismissal, Stokes walked in and took some time to settle in the middle.

With Dawid Malan going well at the other end, Stokes played second fiddle to him. The English opener scored 87(74) and departed. England was 139/3 at the stage. From there, England suffered a mini-collapse. The batters who came after Malan could not stay longer in the middle. Harry Brook scored 11 runs in 16 balls. Jos Buttler had yet another disappointing day with the bat in the middle and scored only 5 runs in 11 balls.

Moeen Ali scored 4 runs in 15 balls and returned to the pavilion. England was reduced to 192/6 in a quick time. In walked Chris Woakes, who was expected to give a good stand to Stokes. That was exactly what Woakes did, as he scored 51(45) himself to revive the innings of England. But it was Stokes who totally took the Dutch bowlers off guard to hand the lead to England.

The Southpaw faced 84 balls and scored 108 runs, which included 6 fours and sixes each. Along with Woakes, Stokes framed a 129-run stand for the 7th wicket which changed the complexion of the game. It demoralized the Dutch attack and led to mistakes in their line and lengths. The knock of Stokes propelled England to a good total of 339 runs on the board. It was the first-ever hundred for Stokes in the World Cup.
