The much-awaited ODI World Cup 2023 finally kicked off on October 5 with England and New Zealand clashing against each other at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. This is the biggest cricket stadium in the world which has the capacity of over 1.30 lakh spectators. 

However, fans were left scratching their heads and taking to social media to roast the organizers of the World Cup after images surfaced of a largely empty stadium during the tournament opening match. The highly anticipated cricket extravaganza kicked off with a match that was expected to draw massive crowds, but the sight of empty seats in a stadium that can hold over 1,30,000 spectators was a surprise to many. The decision of Latham, who is leading the side in Kane Williamson’s absence, turned out right as the Blackcaps restricted the mighty English side to 282 runs which is definitely not enough on a surface which mostly favours batters.
