Prime Minister Narendra Modi addressed the Indian diaspora on July 13 in Paris. He thought back on their forty-year friendship with France. During his speech, PM Modi brought up the rising number of international athletes in India, highlighting in particular the increase in Indian football fans’ enthusiasm for Kylian Mbappe, the captain of the French national team. Mbappe’s fame and admiration in India are much more than they are in his own nation, according to him.

“French football player Kylian Mbappe is superhit among the youth in India. Mbappe is probably known to more people in India than in France,” PM Modi was quoted as saying per ANI. The video of Prime Minister Modi’s comment on Kylian Mbappe quickly became popular, and Indian football fans responded in droves to it. Notably, Kylian Mbappe’s contract dilemma in Paris has dominated news coverage for the past month. He won’t renew his PSG contract, thus at the end of the current campaign, he’ll be a free agent.

When speaking to the Indian community at La Seine Musicale in Paris, PM Modi acknowledged his long-standing friendship with France. He discussed how Ahmedabad, Gujarat, is where the Alliance Française was initially established, and he was proud to mention that he was the center’s first member in India. In recognition of this tremendous personal achievement, the French government had handed him a photocopy of his original identity card, which he still treasures as a valuable keepsake.

“The national anthem of France says Let’s March, Let’s March and in our country also the mantra which has been inspiring us since Vedic times is Charaiveti, Charaiveti. We are going to see the same sentiment in the National Day Parade tomorrow as well,” PM Modi said. The Indian Prime Minister is in France on a two-day trip. Emmanuel Macron, the president of France, has invited him to take part in the Bastille Day celebrations on July 14 as a Guest of Honour.
