Many found it offensive as Rohit Sharma was ignored despite being the Indian skipper. It has been a rough few months for the franchise after Rohit Sharma was replaced as the skipper. Hardik Pandya’s announcement as the new skipper did not sit down well with the fans who boycotted the team’s social media.
Is the rift out in the open?
Indian skipper and opening batter Rohit Sharma hasn’t spoken about Mumbai Indians captaincy decision. This latest move by the MI franchise though will not go down well with the India skipper.
It was under Rohit Sharma that the franchise had won five IPL titles and one Champions League title. As per reports, Rohit Sharma already knew about the decision just before the 2023 ODI World Cup could begin.
There were rumours that Rohit Sharma could be traded by MI with Delhi and Chennai the touted destinations. The 36-year-old is currently leading Team India in the three-match T20I series against Afghanistan.
After winning the first game in Mohali, India will play their next game in Indore. It is at the same venue that Rohit Sharma recorded the joint fastest T20I ton against Sri Lanka. Former skipper Virat Kohli will be back in the side and will replace Shubman Gill as the opener.
Ishan Kishan isn’t part of the Test team as he is replaced by Dhruv Jurel. The 22-year-old got the surprising call-up after impressive performances in the domestic circuit. KL Rahul and KS Bharat are the other two wicketkeepers in the side.
Team India will also have four spinners and four-seam bowlers in the team. Jasprit Bumrah will lead the pace attack with Siraj, Mukesh Kumar, and Avesh Khan. The spin department will be spearheaded by Ravichandran Ashwin with Jadeja, Axar Patel, and Kuldeep Yadav the other spinners.
