India have conquered Asia as they won the Asia Cup 2023 final clash against Sri Lanka by a convincing 10-wicket win at the R Premadasa Stadium in Colombo on Sunday, September 17. The hero of the match was India’s pace sensation Mohammad Siraj who took 6 wickets in the match.

Meanwhile, in a heartwarming display of sportsmanship and appreciation, Siraj decided to share the glory of his outstanding performance in the final showdown by dedicating his Player Of The Match award and the accompanying cash prize to the unsung heroes of the entire tournament – the Sri Lankan groundstaff. Fans were touched by this beautiful gesture by Siraj and appreciated him on social media. Siraj also talked about his magnificent performance and dedicated the cash prize in the post-match interview.

“No biryani here. Have been bowling well for a long time. Was missing the edges earlier. But found them today. The wicket was seaming earlier, but there was swing today. Thought that I would bowl fuller because of the swing. When there’s good bonding between fast bowlers, it’s helpful for the team. I was thinking it would be great if I could stop the boundary. My best spell. This cash prize goes to the groundsmen. This tournament wouldn’t have been possible without them.” Siraj said.

India set to play Australia for 3-match ODI series

Despite his remarkable personal achievement, Siraj chose to shine the spotlight on the individuals who work tirelessly behind the scenes to ensure the smooth conduct of the tournament. His selfless gesture exemplifies the values of unity and respect in sports and serves as a reminder that cricket is more than just a game.

Talking about the team, they will now face Australia in the 3-match home ODI series starting on September 22 before gearing up for the much-awaited ODI World Cup. The major world tournament is set to kick off on October 5 with 2019 World Cup finalists England and New Zealand clashing against each other in the opening match at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad.
