In the final of the Asia Cup 2023, Sri Lanka and India locked horns at the R Premadasa Stadium, Colombo. The home side, Lanka won the toss and elected to bat first. However, ahead of the start, the game was delayed by rain. Talking about the team, the Men In Ble included Washington Sundar in place of injured Axar Patel.

On the other hand, the Lions included Dushan Hemantha in place of injured Maheesh Theekshana. Meanwhile, the six-time winners choosing to bat first turned out to be nothing short of Hell on Earth. Right from the onset, the ball was swinging and Jasprit Bumrah set the tone with a second-ball wicket of Kusal Perera. Bumrah’s bowling partner, Mohammed Siraj started the proceedings with a maiden.

However, the procession of the Lions started in the fourth over. Siraj bowled a four-wicket over and conceded as many runs in the over although he missed a hat-trick chance. This led to the team being reduced to 12/5. In his third over, the Hyderabad player completed his five-wicket haul with the wicket of Dasun Shanaka. With this, the former completed the joint-quickest five-wicket (16 balls by Usman Shinwari, Pakistan).

After 13/6, it was only a matter of time before the team lost the final and the cup. The last four batters scored more runs than their top and middle order. Only two batters, Kusal Mendis (17) and Dushan Hemantha (13) got past double-digit figures. Hardik Pandya took three wickets and helped the team finish the Lankan batting on 50 all-out.
