Australian player Mitchell Starc created history on Tuesday when he became the costliest player in IPL history. Kolkata Knight Riders broke the bank to buy the Aussie pacer for INR 24.75 CR.

Earlier in the day Pat Cummins was brought by Sunrisers Hyderabad for INR 20.5 Crores. The Australian skipper became the first ever player to breach the INR 20 Crores mark in the history of the league.

Gautam Gambhir and Kolkata Knight Riders looked pleased after the acquisition of the fast bowler. Mitchell Starc had previously played just two seasons in the IPL when he was part of the RCB unit.

There was a huge cheer in the room when Mitchell Starc was announced as the next player to go up for auction. Mumbai Indians and Delhi Capitals showed early interest and trading bids to set the tone.

Both teams decided to pull out as they lacked the funds to buy the Australian superstar. When the bid was at INR 9.8 Crores, KKR jumped into the fray and they were joined by Gujarat Titans.

It was like watching a boxing match as the two teams traded blows in trying to outdo each other on the table. The numbers started to increase and the bid was soon nearing the mark that Pat Cummins was brought for by SRH.

There was a massive cheer as the mark hit INR 20.75 Crores which meant a new record was set. For the first time, the IPL’s costliest player mark was surpassed on the same day. The battle wasn’t over as KKR and GT were still fiercely battling it out.

There was a huge gasp across the room when the mark reached INR 24 Crores with Kolkata and Gujarat still in the race. Kolkata though did not back out of the deal and kept going at it and landed their players.

There was a rare smile across the face of Gautam Gambhir as he knew Mitchell Starc was a huge player. With the addition of Mitchell Starc, KKR now are a serious title contender for the IPL 2024 season. The two time IPL winners had also brought KS Bharat and Chetan Sakariya for INR 50 Lakhs each.
