Michael Vaughan trolls Pakistan brutally after humiliating defeat to Afghanistan in 2023 World Cup
Former England captain Michael Vaughan has taken a jibe at the Pakistan cricket team after their embarrassing defeat to Afghanistan in the 2023 ODI World Cup on Monday. Afghanistan registered their first-ever ODI win against Pakistan and they couldn’t have got a better platform to achieve this historic feat. The Men in Green were thrashed by 8 wickets at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai.
After Babar Azam‘s team lost three in a row, Vaughan trolled them brutally by stating that Pakistan might have lost because ‘Dil Dil Pakistan’ wasn’t being played in Chennai. “I presume ‘Dil Dil’ Pakistan wasn’t played in Chennai today,” the 48-year-old posted on X.

For unversed, Vaughan had mocked when Pakistan suffered their first defeat in the ongoing World Cup against arch-rivals India, and this is its sequel. Following Pakistan’s seven-wicket defeat at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad, Pakistan team director Mickey Arthur claimed that the overwhelming support received by the hosts was the main reason for their defeat.
Vaughan, known for his savage trolls on social media, did not spare Arthur. The Englishman sarcastically trolled him saying, Rohit Sharma had asked the DJ then not to play ‘Dil Dil Pakistan’.
We are not playing good cricket: Babar Azam
Opting to bat first, Pakistan managed to post a competitive total of 282/7, thanks to opener Abdullah Shafique and skipper Babar Azam’s half-century. However, their bowling attack, considered one of the most lethal before coming into the tournament, failed to trouble the Afghan batters. Openers Ibrahim Zadran and Rahmanullah Gurbaz laid the foundation with a 130-run partnership. Afghanistan comfortably crossed the finish line with eight wickets and one over to spare.
“We had a good total, but in bowling, we were not up to the mark because we weren’t taking wickets in middle overs. In a World Cup, if you’re not good even in one department, you lose. All credit to Afghanistan. We are not playing good cricket, especially in bowling and fielding. The pitch was helping the spinners even in the second innings. There was no pressure on their batsmen,” Babar said after the match.
