Indian Cricket Team and its fans had a huge reason to cheer for. Rohit Sharma finally came to form with an amazing century on Wednesday against Afghanistan. This was his fifth T20I century to take him to the top of the tree in this format.

India won the toss and chose to bat first after bowling in the last two games. Sanju Samson, Avesh Khan, and Kuldeep Yadav came into the team. Axar Patel, Arshdeep Singh, and Jitesh Sharma were rested for the game.

Afghanistan also made three changes to their team as they were winding up the short series. This was the first time the Afghans were touring India and playing a series in front of the Indian crowds.

Rohit Sharma’s century lights up the night

Batting first, the India skipper Rohit Sharma would have hoped for a good start. At 22/4, the men in blue were in all sorts of trouble. Fareed Ahmed struck twice in two balls to stun the home crowd.

Young Yashasvi Jaiswal was out for four and this was followed by the big scalp of Virat Kohli for a duck. Shivam Dube who scored two half-centuries in the previous two games was out for 1. Sanju Samson could not make use of the chance he got as he was out for a first-ball duck like Virat Kohli.

It was then the Rinku Singh and Rohit Sharma show as the duo added 190 runs for the 5th wicket. The unbroken stand began slow but once the two got their eyes in there was nothing that could stop them

Rohit Sharma looked troubled at the start but with every ball, his confidence grew. With a boundary, the Indian skipper got to his fifth T20I century and there was a massive celebration.

This century also vindicated why the selectors and the management wanted Rohit back in the team. Such a performance augurs well for the Indian side with the huge T20 World Cup in June this year.

For Rohit Sharma, this is a huge chance to prove his detractors wrong and get India its trophy this year. India’s skipper ended with 121 not out off 69 balls with 11 fours and 8 sixes as India scored 212. Rinku Singh was not out on 69 off 39 balls with two fours and six sixes.
