‘Maamla toh ghar tak chala gaya’ – Fans react as Angelo Mathews’ brother says stones will be pelted on Shakib Al Hasan if he comes to play in Sri Lanka
The Sri Lanka-Bangladesh ODI World Cup match recently witnessed a controversial incident as Bangladesh captain Shakib Al Hasan declined to withdraw an appeal for a timed-out dismissal, leading to Angelo Mathews becoming the first player in cricket history to be given the ‘Timed-out’ verdict. Shakib’s actions garnered significant criticism within the cricketing community.
Meanwhile, now, Angelo’s brother, Trevin Mathews, issued a warning to Shakib. He cautioned that if Shakib were to play in Sri Lanka, he might face the threat of being pelted with stones by Sri Lankan fans. Such threats have no place in cricket and should be strongly condemned to uphold the values of sportsmanship and fair play.
“We strongly condemn the behaviour of the Bangladeshi captain, which lacked sportsmanship and violated the spirit of the gentleman’s game. We are disappointed with his actions and believe they show a lack of humanity. Shakib is not welcome in Sri Lanka due to this behaviour. If he decides to come here for any international or LPL matches, the fans could beat him with stones.,”
Shakib will not Bangladesh’s last ODI World Cup clash due to injury
Meanwhile, the Bangladesh skipper is ruled out of the ODI World Cup 2023 and is set to miss Bangladesh’s last match which will be against Australia on November 11 in Pune. Bangladesh’s physio Bayjedul Islam Khan revealed that Shakib sustained an injury to his left index finger during his innings but bravely continued to bat with taping and pain relief. However, an emergency X-ray in Delhi after the game confirmed a fracture in his left PIP joint, and his recovery is expected to take three to four weeks.
“Shakib was struck on his left index finger early in his innings but continued to bat with supportive taping and painkillers. He underwent an emergency X-ray in Delhi after the game which confirmed the fracture on the left PIP joint. Recovery is estimated at three to four weeks.” Islam Khan was quoted as saying by Hindustan Times.
