While Jasprit Bumrah and Prasidh Krishna are set to return from injury in the India tour of Ireland, another key India batter recuperating from injury is on his way to return and is now declared ‘fit and ready for selection’ for Asia Cup 2023. Star batter KL Rahul has been forced to the sidelines since he picked up a thigh injury while fielding in Lucknow Super Giants’ home fixture against Royal Challengers Bangalore in the Indian Premier League 2023.

The batter then underwent surgery in London and returned to the intensive rehab programme of the National Cricket Academy in Bengaluru. He has been in the recovery phase of his injury for a considerable time now. There have been positive updates around the wicketkeeper batter’s fitness. He was recently seen in a viral video doing wicketkeeping drills and also batting in the nets. As such, according to a source close to the developments, KL Rahul is now said to be available for selection for Asia Cup 2023.

The Aisa Cup 2023 will be played between August 30 and September 17

“The coaches and medical experts at the Indian Cricket Board’s National Cricket Academy in Bangalore are satisfied with Rahul’s progress/recovery. He will be available for selection for the Asia Cup” the source told Times of India. The Asia Cup 2023 will be co-hosted by Pakistan and Sri Lanka in 2023 with the tournament played in the 50-over format this year. It begins on August 30 and the final game is scheduled for September 17. India will kickstart their campaign against Pakistan on September 2 against Pakistan at Pallekele.

While KL Rahul is reported to make his return in the Asia Cup 2023, there is still no update on Shreyas Iyer. The batter has been sidelined since his injury in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy. Similar is the case with Rishabh Pant, the explosive wicketkeeper batter who suffered several injuries in a car accident in December last year. While medical professionals are happy with Pant’s recovery pace, he would not be able to play in the Asia Cup or the World Cup, per reports.
