In the 10th game of the ongoing ODI World Cup 2023, South Africa and Australia locked horns in Lucknow. It was the first game at Bharat Ratna Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee Ekana Cricket Stadium in this tournament. Meanwhile, the five-time winners won the toss and elected to bowl first. Apparently, none of the teams how the wicket was going to respond.

Meanwhile, the Proteas had a great start with skipper Temba Bavuma and Quinton De Kock putting together 108 runs for the first wicket. While the latter was going well as he was coming off a hundred against Sri Lanka, Bavuma struggled a bit but managed to negate the new ball. With Rassie van der Dussen, de Kock added another 50 runs before the former was caught at long off Adam Zampa. De Kock scored his second consecutive hundred before getting out to Maxwell. Aiden Markram, coming off the fastest ODI World Cup hundred last weekend, scored another fifty. Thanks to them, the four-time semifinalists reached 311/7 as they lost a few wickets in the last 10 overs.

South Africa thrash Australia by 134 runs

In the second innings, the chase got tougher as the wicket started assisting the pacers, alongside spin from the first innings. The Aussies had another collapse, something which they have been guilty of in the last few games against India and South Africa leading up to the World Cup.

They lost six wickets for 70 runs although the wickets of Steve Smith and Marcus Stoinis became a matter of debate. Meanwhile, from this situation, they were set to lose the game. Marnus Labuschagne (46) and Mitchell Starc (27) showed some respectability and skipper Pat Cummins (22) played a cameo. In the end, the five-time winners were bowled out for 171 runs, losing the game by 134 runs. With this, they have joined the likes of Netherlands, Sri Lanka, and Afghanistan who have lost two games each.
