A recent report says that KL Rahul has been included in the Indian team for ODI World Cup 2023. Apex Council had set a deadline to announce their preliminary squad to September 5. However, as per recent reports, the Indian Cricket Board’s medical panel has cleared Rahul as far as fitness is concerned two days ahead of the deadline. The right-hander was included in the Asia Cup 2023 squad.

Talking about the squad, the likes of skipper Rohit Sharma, opening batter Shubman Gill, and former skipper Virat Kohli are sure to get the nod. Middle-order batters such as Shreyas Iyer, Ishan Kishan (wicketkeeper too), and Suryakumar Yadav also have been named. All-rounders such as Hardik Pandya, Ravindra Jadeja, Axar Patel, and Shardul Thakur have also been considered.

Talking about bowlers, players such as Jasprit Bumrah, Mohammed Siraj, Kuldeep Yadav, and Mohammed Shami have been given a go. In the report by The Indian Express, Rahul has started batting in the nets for hours at the National Cricket Academy.

KL Rahul picked a niggle ahead of the Asia Cup 2023

Ahead of the ongoing Asia Cup 2023, Rahul and Shreyas Iyer made their comebacks after long injury layoffs. While the latter played against Pakistan, Rahul was left in Bengaluru to get his fitness cleared. The Lucknow Super Giants skipper might play in the Super Four if India qualifies after beating Nepal.

“Shreyas is being declared completely fit while KL Rahul has picked up a niggle. It is not his original injury and that’s why Sanju is travelling with us. We are all expecting him to be fit, if not at the start of the Asia Cup but maybe the second and third game but he is well on track. They are two important players and since we are not picking the team for the World Cup teams till September 5, it gives us some time,” Agarkar had told the reporters in New Delhi after Asia Cup squad selection.
