‘Karna hai toh karna hai’ – Karan Johar opens up on Dharmendra-Shabana Azmi kissing scene from ‘Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani’

The latest released family drama Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani, directed by veteran Bollywood director and producer Karan Johar, did very well at the box office in its initial days. But now the movie is witnessing a dip slowly, however, it has already crossed the INR 50 crore mark but it seems like it would be struggling to achieve the INR 100 crore club.

Meanwhile, Johar recently opened up on the kissing scene between the two legendary actors in the movie Dharmendra and Shabana Azmi. The movie’s main leads Ranveer Singh and Alia Bhatt shared a steamy scene but the kissing between Dharmendra and Azmi stole the show. Johar said that none of the actors were uncomfortable doing the sequence.

“No (it was not hard to convince either of the actors). Shabana Ji is a trooper. She is a master actor. What an actor, she is a baap actor (great actor). There was no question. Dharam ji (Dharmendra) was like ‘Haan karna hai toh karna hai (if it has to be done, it has to be done)’. Two great veterans just performing with absolute aplomb, no questions asked. I needed it to be a peck; that was what I wanted.” Johar was quoted as saying by Hindustan Times.

Johar further talked about both the veteran actors and said that a 1961 song Abhi Na Jao Chhod Kar was dedicated to them in the movie and he also recalled Azmi’s dialogue from the movie during the kissing scene.

“One of my all-time favourites is Abhi Na Jao Chhod Kar (from the 1961 film Hum Dono) and it had to be their song because that’s what she says in the dialogue about ‘Mall Road pe woh walks, hum dono ka woh re-run, humara woh favourite gana (Mall Road walks, our re-run, our favourite song). And that became the thematic kind of connection of Rocky (Ranveer) and Rani (Alia) as well. It was just glorious to see them (Dharmendra and Shabana).” he added.
