Kangana Ranaut Discusses Struggles Faced During Emergency Production
Actor Kangana Ranaut has shared insights into the hurdles she faced while creating her upcoming film, Emergency, set to release on January 17. The movie, which depicts the 21-month Emergency imposed by Prime Minister Indira Gandhi from 1975 to 1977, underwent significant challenges, including delays, funding issues, and scrutiny by various groups.
A Journey Full of Obstacles
Speaking with ANI, Kangana described the journey as arduous:
“Bhaut sangharsh raha…kaafi cheezo ka saamana karna pada (There were a lot of struggles… we faced many challenges). It was not an easy ride,” she admitted. The film faced intense scrutiny, requiring approval from multiple communities and navigating legal hurdles.
Financial Struggles and Personal Sacrifices
Kangana revealed she had to sell her property in Mumbai to keep the project afloat after its initial release date was postponed.
“I had no idea I would endure such difficult times while making this film,” she confessed. Funding issues and a lack of confidence in the film’s release added to the pressure. Despite these obstacles, she expressed her faith in India’s constitution and the censor board.
Delays and Controversies
The film missed its original release date of September 6, 2024, due to delays in obtaining clearance from the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC). Additionally, backlash from Sikh organizations, accusing the film of factual misrepresentation, further delayed its release. After overcoming these challenges, Emergency finally received CBFC approval.
