‘Jiska dar tha wahi hua’ – Fans react as 2nd Test between India and West Indies ends up in draw due to rain, India seal 1-0 victory

India won the 2-match Test series against West Indies on July 25 as the 2nd Test ended up in a draw after Day 5 got abandoned due to rain. The first session was washed due to rain, however, the umpires scheduled the 2nd session for 10:45 pm IST, but it started raining once again and the officials called it off.

Talking about the match until Day 4, despite the fact that the West Indies won the toss and chose to bowl first, Virat Kohli‘s 29th Test century helped India amass a significant first-innings total of 438 against the West Indies. He scored 121 runs, including 11 boundaries, in 206 balls. Earlier, Rohit Sharma and Yashavi Jaiswal put up a 139-run partnership for the first wicket.

On Day 2 morning, Kohli hit his century but later got run out. Ravindra Jadeja swiftly followed him with 61 off 152 balls, which featured five boundaries. Before getting bowled out by West Indies, Ravichandran Ashwin contributed to India reaching 438 runs with a good 56 off 78 balls and eight boundaries.

Brilliant performance by India

In response, West Indies got off to a strong start, thanks to opening pair Kraigg Braithwaite and Tagenarine Chandrapaul’s 71-run opening stand. Even the up-and-coming batters all got off to a great start, but none of them managed to turn it into a significant score. Indian bowlers bowled out the West Indies team for 255 runs in the first innings and started the 2nd innings with a 183-run lead. 

The openers stitched together a 98-run partnership in just 12 overs before being both dismissed just before the rain break. Rohit declared the innings and give the home team a target of 365 after freshly promoted No. 4 batsman Ishan Kishan reached his first Test fifty off just 33 deliveries.

Kraigg Brathwaite appeared to be engaged with the pacers as West Indies made a respectable start to chasing the score. R Ashwin, on the other hand, got the breakthrough by removing the Windies captain for the second time in the game and then Kirk McKenzie in the following over. There were no more setbacks until Day 4 stumps and Day 5 got washed out, resulting in a draw.
