‘It’s not like Indian pitches will always be the same’ – Former Indian cricketer believes India should be concerned about Shubman Gill not scoring big
Indian cricket team young sensation Shubman Gill has performed really well over the past few years irrespective of any format. However, now it seems that the 23-year-old batter has lost his form ahead of the two major tournaments Asia Cup and the ODI World Cup. Gill’s performance in the ongoing West Indies tour has been really disappointing.
Meanwhile, former Indian fast bowler RP Singh recently talked about Gill and said that the Indian team should be concerned about Gill as he is not scoring big for a while now. He believes that Gill is also struggling against the left-arm spinners. He also said that the pitches are quite tricky in West Indies but Gill should have performed as he is playing at the international level.
“I think the Indian team might be concerned about Shubman Gill already because he hasn’t managed to score big for quite a long time. He has not done well against the left-arm spinners on a few occasions, too. The pitches are a bit challenging, no doubt, but if you’re playing at the international level, you’ll encounter different types of surfaces. It’s not like Indian pitches will always be the same, allowing you to play big shots through the line. But, I feel the Indian team has decided that Shubman (Gill) will be opening the innings with Rohit Sharma in future,” Singh was quoted as saying by Hindustan Times.
I am sure Shubman Gill will figure it out: Abhinav Mukund
Another former Indian cricketer Abhinav Mukund believes that Gill will surely figure out what is going wrong with him as he is a quality player. However, he believes that there isn’t too much worry about him as he performed exceptionally well in the recently concluded Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023. As the ODI World Cup is set to be played in India, it is to be believed that Gill will perform well.
“India should be a bit concerned about Shubman Gill’s form in this series. But that being said, he is a quality player, and I am sure he will figure it out. I feel he is getting into too much of a shell and then playing an attacking shot and getting dismissed.
Unfortunately for Shubman, he hasn’t got the big score but there is not too much worry about it as far as I am concerned, because we have seen in the IPL how he is able to progress and score big hundreds and be the anchor that India needs at the top of the order. That’s exactly what I would want from him. Take a bit more time, it’s fine and be the senior partner in that top order. I am sure Shubman will fire.” Mukund said.
