The teams which will be taking part in the upcoming ODI World Cup 2023 have started preparing for the major event. Some teams are looking quite settled while some are still struggling to find their perfect 11-member squad. One of those teams are New Zealand who are still not clear about their regular captain Kane Williamson’s participation.

Meanwhile, Williamson recently talked about the same and indicated that his chances of participating in the World Cup are slim. However, he expressed how special is to be at the World Cup but there is still a lot of work to do on his fitness and many other things. Willamson said that he is following the program provided by the physios.

“To be at the World Cup is always special. It’s still just guesswork at the moment in terms of when the day is or how it’s tracking at the time. There’s a lot of work to do. I am just really following the program, with the professionals for physio, the support staff and New Zealand cricket,” Williamson was quoted as saying by Crictracker.

“And it’s tough, because you do have some good days, and then you have a few variable ones. However, something like that [World Cup] in the back of your mind is obviously motivating, and you want to keep seeing those improvements,” he added.

I never really had to break it down: Kane Williamson

Williamson has reportedly started throwdowns in the nets and is hopeful of facing the bowlers as well. He injured his knee during the 1st match of the  Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023 and since then he is recovering from it. The right-hander said that he never faced this much spin bowling in the nets in his career.

“Yeah, still, throws and things, working through some of those positions. I never really had to break it down so much ever in terms of some of the spin work, the variation and links, all these sorts of things that you never thought too much about,” he said.
