England all-rounder Tom Curran has been handed a ban of 4 matches in the ongoing Big Bash League (BBL) 2023/24. In the lead-up to the match between Sydney Sixers and Hobart Hurricanes in the 13th edition of the league, Curran was seen attempting to intimidate the umpire while practising to take part in the match. The management of BBL has given the verdict on the same in its statement.

The Article 2.17 of the code of conduct of Big Bash League states that “The intimidation or attempted intimidation of an umpire, match referee or medical personnel whether by language or conduct (including gestures) during a match,” might land one in trouble. Curran was found guilty for the same in the league, which has landed him for a ban of 4 matches on a trot.

Before the match between Hobart and Sydney, Curran was seen practising on the pitch. Reports claim that Curran was continuously stepping in between the line of the stumps after bowling. The English pacer was warned by the umpires repeatedly and asked not to commit the mistake. He was then sent to the opposite pitch to continue his practice. Curran continued his practice on different pitches.

Reason behind the ban on Tom Curran 

Curran did not learn his lessons, as he went to a different pitch and made the same mistakes. He again stepped on the pitch and received a warning from the umpires. It probably did not go well with Curran, who tried to intimidate the umpire for informing him the same. In a video that has gone viral, Curran was seen pointing at the umpire to go out of his way.

The incident was discussed by the management and the action has been taken. Curran was picked by RCB in the IPL auction 2024. While some said that it was a good buy from RCB, many others claimed it to be a very bad move from the franchise. In the past, Tom was taken apart by the batters. Fans have been questioning the decisions of the franchise in attempting to get Curran in the squad for IPL 2024.
