India suffered a 4-run loss against West Indies in the first match of the 5-match ODI series at the Brian Lara Stadium in Trinidad on Thursday, August 4. Many fans and cricket experts have slammed the Indian team for losing the match and some of them believe that the absence of senior players Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli is the reason behind their loss.

Meanwhile, a Pakistan journalist Farid Khan, who often criticises the Indian team, took a dig at the Indian captain for the current West Indies T20I series Hardik Pandya for his old statement which he gave in 2021. The statement reads, “The kind of talent which the Indian team possesses right now, I think we can pick two more teams and win any competition in the world.” However, Farid was brutally trolled by the Indian fans and many told him to not interrupt every time in India’s matches.

Talking about the 1st T20I between West Indies and India, the Caribbean side opted to bat first after winning the toss. Opener Brandon King provided a great start to the team but the introduction of the veteran Indian leg-spinner Yuzvendra Chahal in the 5th over saw the dismissals of both King and Kyle Mayers in the same over.

Poor batting performance by Indian batters

However, Nicholas Pooran and skipper Rovman Powell helped the team to achieve a fighting total of 149 runs. Pooran scored 41 runs Powell smashed 48 runs off just 32 balls. For India, Arshdeep Singh and Chahal picked up 2 wickets each while Kuldeep Yadav and Pandya took 1 wicket each.

Chasing the target, India started horribly as they lost both their openers Shubman Gill and Ishan Kishan inside the powerplay. The middle-order batters got the start but none of them could score big and fell 4 runs short of the victory. Debutant Tilak Varma played a brilliant knock of 39 runs off just 22 balls which included 2 fours and 3 sixes but that wasn’t enough for the team to win the match.
