Is Rajat Patidar getting released from India squad for Dharamshala Test against England?
Rajat Patidar might have bad news ahead of him. The talented batter recently got to make his Test debut in Vishakhapatnam against England. Patidar made it to the squad following his great knocks for India A against England Lions. As Virat Kohli opted out of the series due to personal reasons, Patidar was included in the squad as his replacement. The fans were happy for his Test call-up.
The injury of KL Rahul meant that the 30-year-old got to make his Test debut. While it was a great moment for the right-handed batter to get the Test cap, he has not been able to impress the fans. On his maiden innings, Patidar scored 32 runs, which is his only score above 30 in Tests. In the second innings, the middle-order batter scored just nine runs.
The last two Tests have been forgettable for Patidar as a batter. In Rajkot, Rajat managed to score five runs in the first innings and returned with a duck in the 2nd innings. In the fourth Test in Ranchi, Patidar scored 17 in the first innings and bagged a golden duck in the 2nd innings. These are not impressive numbers for a batter of Rajat’s class.
Will it be his last Test series?
Given that age is not well on his side and the youngsters have shown equal promises, the chances are running out for the star batter. Reports claim that there is a good chance of KL Rahul replacing him in the fifth Test if he gets medically fit. The obvious candidate to make way for KL Rahul would be the RCB batter.
While reports suggest that Rahul is still doubtful for the fifth Test, Patidar would be praying to get one last chance to prove himself. Even if he gets a chance, things would be more challenging for him than it was in the series till now. Given the overcast forecast for the Dharamshala Test, England’s pacers will feel at home, which will be a different cup of tea for the right-handed batter.
