IPL 2024 auction goes global as Indian Cricket Board plans spectacular venue beyond India

The Indian Cricket Board are contemplating the idea of hosting the auction of the 17th edition of the Indian Premier League in Dubai, as per reports. They have also narrowed down the potential dates for the auction, which fall within the period of December 15 to 19. Before the IPL auction, there will be an auction for the Women’s Premier League (WPL) scheduled for December 9. Although the location for the WPL auction has not been confirmed, it is expected to take place in India.

However, no official announcement has been made to the franchises, there is a strong likelihood that the IPL auction will be conducted in Dubai, possibly on December 18 or 19, despite these days falling on weekdays. It’s worth noting that the Board had considered Istanbul as a venue for last year’s auction but ultimately chose Kochi. The idea of holding the auction in Dubai may still be in its early stages, but all IPL franchises have been informed about the Gulf city’s interest in hosting the auction.

No reports for player exchanges so far

While the trade window is still open, there have been no reports of player exchanges between IPL teams so far. It is uncertain whether significant deals will occur, as this marks the final year of the three-year window. However, it is possible that highly paid players who underperformed in the previous IPL season may be released ahead of the IPL Auction.

The location and dates for the WPL auction have not yet been communicated to the team owners by the Indian Cricket Board. There is a suggestion that the league may take place in February of this year, as the Indian women’s team has overseas commitments until mid-January. As for the WPL, it remains unclear whether it will be hosted in multiple cities, as it was in Mumbai last year, or if it will be held in a single city. Team decisions on this matter have not been disclosed.
