Pakistan cricket team’s premium pacer Shaheen Afridi’s performance in the ongoing ODI World Cup 2023 has not been great so far. He has played all the 3 matches of the tournament but has taken only 4 wickets and has leaked a lot of runs. Afridi took 2 wickets against India but conceded 36 runs in 6 overs.

Meanwhile, former legendary Pakistan bowler Waqar Younis talked about Afridi’s average performance in the tournament so far and said that there is nothing about his fitness but the reason behind his average performance is the lack of discipline. He even said that Afridi should take a leaf from Bumrah’s book of discipline to improve.

“I don’t know if there is a problem with his fitness. The missing link in his bowling is discipline and he is over trying to get wickets. When you do the same thing again and again, like Shaheen is bowling to get his yorker going, then batsmen know that and they are ready for it. Bumrah is creating pressure and his line is top of the off stump. He bowled so well against Pakistan and created pressure to get wickets,” Waqar was quoted as saying by Hindustan Times.

They are not keeping it simple: Waqar Younis

Younis also believes that the absence of Naseem Shah from the squad has had a major impact on Afridi’s performance. He said that when Naseem creates pressure on the batter from one end, the other bowlers get wicket from the other end.

“Naseem is a good bowler and doesn’t give many runs away. When Naseem creates pressure, batsmen take chances with other bowlers and they get wickets.” Lacking discipline at the World Cup and this cannot be pinned down to the absence of one bowler. I don’t think it’s because of missing just one bowler, but it’s because they are not keeping it simple,”
