Syed Mohsin Raza Naqvi has been elected as the new Chairman of the Pakistan Cricket Board. He will assign his new role as the 37th Chairman of the Board. The official user account of the Board took to X and announced the same. Syed Mohsin Raza Naqvi was the interim CM of the state of Punjab before he was appointed for the new role.

Pakistan Cricket Board confirmed that Naqvi was ‘Elected Unanimously and unopposed’ as the new Chairman. “Mr Syed Mohsin Raza Naqvi has been elected unanimously and unopposed as the Pakistan Cricket Board’s 37th Chairman today,” wrote the Pakistan Cricket Board in their official confirmation. It is a post that has been under attention a lot in recent times, with many coming to and going out of power.

Ramiz Raja and Najam Sethi have been in power recently. Their terms ended with controversies. While Ramiz was sacked after a bad performance against Pakistan in Test cricket, Sethi resigned after Pakistan lost the ODI WC 2023. The tenure of Sethi was a bad one for Pakistan, as not everything seemed to be good with him and the then-skipper Babar Azam.

Bad results for Pakistan under new captains

After Pakistan lost the ODI WC 2023, many key figures in Pakistan resigned from their roles. It includes the likes of Head Coach, Mentor, Director of Cricket, Bowling Coach, Chairman of the selection committee, and so on. Even the skipper resigned from his role. Many new names were introduced in Pakistan Cricket. Shahen Afridi and Shan Masood were named the captains of T20I and Test sides respectively.

In the maiden assignment of Shaheen as the skipper, Pakistan faced a huge defeat of 1-4 against NZ in their backyard. It is a big concern for them ahead of the T20 WC 2024. Under Shan Masood, Pakistan lost the Test series in Australia by a margin of 3-0 without winning a Test. The Asian side could not even draw a match in Australia. Pakistan fans would be hoping for Naqvi’s tenure to be a fruitful one.
