Ajit Agarkar was reportedly unhappy to see Shreyas Iyer in the academy of KKR. Reports claim that the Indian chief selector was angry with the fact that Iyer was in the academy of KKR, and not in the dressing room of Mumbai to play the Ranji Trophy match. The fans expressed their concern on the issue and regarded it as going bad for the star batter.

The last few weeks have been difficult for Iyer. He was excluded from the central contract of India along with Ishan Kishan for not taking part in the Ranji Trophy matches. The right-handed batter was ruled out of the ongoing series between India and England due to a stiff back and groin injury. NCA, however, declared him fit to play.

While Iyer did not take part in the Ranji Trophy quarterfinal match, the Indian Cricket Board was unhappy with it. To make the Indian players fear for the board, strict action was taken against those who missed the domestic matches to prepare for the IPL. The likes of Kishan, Hardik Pandya, and Krunal Pandya were seen in the nets of Baroda. It reportedly did not go well with the officials.

What’s next for Shreyas Iyer?

While Iyer and Kishan were excluded from the central contract, it worried the fans about their future in cricket. Iyer will lead KKR in the IPL 2024 and would be hoping to make his return count. He could not take part in the IPL 2023 due to an injury. The challenge for Iyer would be to perform both as a batter and as a skipper so that he could be in the reckoning to get selected for T20 WC 2024.

While nothing has been said about his participation for India in the upcoming days, it has been reported that the KKR batter could still make it to the side given his performance in the IPL. Iyer would be hoping to deliver for KKR, as it has been a long time since he had a great season as an individual performer in the IPL.
