Ishan Kishan has been in the news for his refusal to play domestic cricket. The 25-year-old hasn’t played in the Indian domestic season despite regular requests. This led the selectors to snub Ishan Kishan and Shreyas Iyer from the initial contract lists.

According to a report carried by ESPN CRICINFO, Ishan Kishan was given a chance to make his comeback. The chance was given by the Indian team management during the recent Test series against England.

KS Bharat began as the main wicketkeeper for India in the first two games of the series. Dhruv Jurel made his debut in Rajkot and went on to impress everyone with his skills. The 22-year-old scored a match-winning 90 and 39 not out in Ranchi.

Did Ishan Kishan refuse a chance to come back?

According to report by ESPN CRICINFO, Ishan Kishan was given a chance to make his return to the team. The offer was made during the ongoing series between India and England.

Rahul Dravid wanted Ishan Kishan to play for Jharkhand which the youngster didn’t follow up. Jay Shah also sounded out a warning to the youngsters to pay heed to the team management.

It wasn’t surprising when Ishan Kishan wasn’t given the central contract along with Shreyas Iyer. One source speaking to CRICINFO said “The selectors don’t doubt their ability. But if the NCA is saying you are fit and you are not making yourself available for the Test series, how can the board offer you a contract?

According to the same source, if Kishan can play well during the IPL there may be a chance for redemption. The source in question also asked the players to be part of the national set-up to earn their contracts.

“After the IPL, if they happen to get selected and fulfil the criteria of the number of matches required for a pro-rata contract, they will be awarded a contract” The source revealed to ESPN CRICINFO.

Young Dhruv Jurel has been in good form with the bat for India since making his Test debut. The 22-year-old made an immediate impact when he scored 90 runs in the 1st innings of the Ranchi Test. India were 120/5 still needing 72 runs when Gill and Jurel joined forces. Showing the maturity of a veteran, Jurel took his side home to a series win.
