‘India walo, ab tumhare baari’ – Fans react as Pakistan beat Sri Lanka by six wickets in ODI World Cup 2023

In the eighth game of the ongoing ODI World Cup 2023, Pakistan and Sri Lanka locked horns in the last game played in Hyderabad. Ahead of the game, the Lankan Lions were coming off a hammering against South Africa last weekend. On the other hand, the Green Brigade won against the lower-ranked Netherlands last week at the same venue.

Meanwhile, in the game, the 1996 winners won the toss and elected to bat first. They had a poor start though as Kusal Perera (0) was removed by Hasan Ali. At 5/1, the likes of Kusal Mendis and Pathum Nissanka put together 102 runs for the second wicket. The latter got 51 and got out to Shadab Khan on a poor delivery. After this, the likes of Sadeera Samarawickrama and Mendis added another 11 runs.

During this, the latter scored the fastest hundred for Sri Lanka in ODI World Cups. In 67 balls, he scored his hundred. The right-hander got 122 runs including 14 fours and six sixes. However, after his wicket, the scoring rate dropped significantly. At the end of 40 overs, the team was 283/4. In the last 10 overs, the Blue Brigade lost five wickets and 61 runs and ended with 344/9.

For the Shaheens, Hasan Ali took four wickets and Haris Rauf took two. On the other hand, Shaheen Afridi, Mohammad Nawaz, and Shadab Khan took one wicket each.

In reply, the 1992 winners had a poor start losing Imam-ul-Haq and skipper Babar Azam getting out with 37 runs on the board. At this stage, the likes of Abdullah Shafique and Mohammad Rizwan put together 176 runs for the third wicket. The former scored his maiden ODI World Cup hundred before getting out to Matheesha Pathirana.

Rizwan, on the other hand, got 131 runs and helped the team chase down the target scoring the winning runs. The team won the game by six wickets.
