The ongoing second Test between South Africa and India has seen a lot of action on Day One. After electing to bat first, the home team was bowled out for 55 runs. Mohammed Siraj took his maiden six-wicket haul in Tests. Apart from him, Jasprit Bumrah and Mukesh Kumar took two wickets each to complete the demolition job before the Lunch break.

After the Lunch, the Asian team started well although they lost four wickets for 111 runs. In the second session, the team was going well at 153/4. However, after the wicket of KL Rahul at this stage, the team lost five more wickets to be bowled out for 153. The two-time World Test Championship finalists lost their last six wickets for zero runs.

In reply, trailing by 98 runs, the Proteas had a decent start before losing three wickets before stumps. After the fall of the first wicket on 37 in the form of retiring Dean Elgar, the team was reduced to 45/3.

Virat Kohli flips the bail before stumps on Day One

The former India skipper did the same during the Boxing Day played in the last week of 2023. It resulted in two quick wickets although India ended up losing the Test match. At the end of Day One, Virat Kohli did the same before the last ball of the Day.

Due to the slow over rate from both sides, the game was extended for half an hour with Cape Town experiencing long days due to the summer season. Meanwhile, after the bail flip, the umpires weren’t happy but Aiden Markram didn’t mind it at all.

Meanwhile, Cape Town has seen the fifth joint highest number of wickets fall on a single Day. In the Ashes 1888, 27 wickets fell during a day during one of the Test matches.
