Dean Elgar set to lead South Africa in his farewell Test match, Temba Bavuma gets ruled out of second Test
Dean Elgar is set to lead South Africa in his farewell Test match. Temba Bavuma gets ruled out of the second Test against India at Cape Town due to the injury he sustained while fielding in the first innings at Centurion. Bavuma suffered a niggle in the first Test and did not take part in the match from then. In his absence, Dean Elgar led SA for the rest of the match.
Bavuma did not come out to bat as well against India. The coach of SA, Shukri Conrad, gave his explanation for the same. “Temba is not in a great physical state. He was ready to bat at every turn, and we kept monitoring it,” said Conrad. SA posted a huge total of 408 runs on the board in the first innings, which was more than enough for the home side to win the match.
As a result, there was no need for Bavuma to make his appearance as a batter. “When we reached where we reached, not because we felt that was enough, we felt that if we sent him out then there was a potential risk that he could aggravate the risk even further,” added the coach of SA in his statement, who said that Bavuma was not risked further.
Dean Elgar to lead South Africa at Cape Town
Having won the first test of the series, South Africa are in a good position to win the series. In the absence of Temba Bavuma, Dean Elgar will be leading the home side in the fourth Test. The experienced batter had announced it as his last series in international cricket. It would be a good way for him to end his career by leading South Africa for one last time.
Elgar revealed that retiring after playing his last game at Cape Town is the perfect way of retiring possible. The opener’s favourite stadium is Cape Town, and he would be getting a chance to lead the home side for one last time in his illustrious career. South Africa would like to give a perfect farewell to Dean.
