‘I was a bit shocked’ – Shikhar Dhawan’s emotional take on missing out upcoming Asian Games 2023

While the Indian team is struggling to find the correct batting combination ahead of the upcoming ODI World Cup 2023, it is to be believed that they have decided to completely ignore the veteran left-handed opener, Shikhar Dhawan. He last played an ODI match in December 2022 against Bangladesh.

Meanwhile, Dhawan recently opened up about not getting selected for the upcoming Asian Games. The left-hander said that he was shocked after he got to know about the news. However, he is also happy that Ruturaj Gaikwad will be leading the side in Asian Games and he wished the players to do well.

“When my name was not there (for Asian Games), I was a bit shocked. But, then, I was like they have a different thought process, you just have to accept it. Happy that Rutu (Gaikwad) will lead the side. All the young boys are there, I am sure they will do well,” Dhawan was quoted as saying by Hindustan Times.

However, Dhawan is still hoping to make a comeback in the team and this is the reason why he is keeping himself fit. He is currently at the National Cricket Academy (NCA) and is training well. The left-hander will be seen playing in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy and the Vijay Hazare Trophy both.

“I will be ready, of course (for the comeback). That is why I keep myself fit (so whenever I get a chance, I am ready). There is always a chance whether it is one percent or 20 percent. I still enjoy training and I still enjoy the game; these are the things in my control. Whatever decision is made, I respect that,” he added.

“I have not spoken to any selector (about my future). I keep going to NCA. I enjoy my time there; the facilities are great. NCA has shaped my career and I am grateful for it. Also, I have to prepare for the IPL. I will be playing the Syed Mushtaq Ali and, hopefully, the Vijay Hazare as well.” he said.
