Herschelle Gibbs brutally attacks Temba Bavuma for his fitness

Temba Bavuma returned to the dressing room after injuring himself while fielding on the first Day of the Centurion Test. It has been the third injury of Bavuma in the last 4 months and the injuries have been consistent in his career in recent times. During the series against Australia in ODIs in September, Bavuma sustained an injury and missed out on a couple of games in the series.

In the ODI World Cup 2023, Bavuma sustained a hamstring injury and was ruled out of the game against England at Wankhede Stadium. The absence of Bavuma was highlighted by many and asked about his fitness levels at the highest level in cricket. In the absence of Bavuma, Aiden Markram led SA in the ODI WC 2023. The injury of Bavuma in recent times has been well accounted for.

Speaking about the same, the former South African cricketer Herschelle Gibbs has reacted on X. After the injury of Bavuma on the 1st day of the Centurion Test, reports claimed him to be missing out on playing the remainder of the Test. It led to the former cricketer expressing his disbelief at the lack of focus being given to the fitness of cricketers in the team which was once known for monitoring fitness.

In 2009, Gibbs was neglected from selections by the strength and conditioning trainer of SA, Rob Walter. “UPDATE ON BAVUMA. The scans have revealed a left hamstring strain, and he will undergo daily medical evaluations to determine his participation in the match,” claimed the reports on Bavuma’s fitness. Gibbs reacted to it and criticized the fitness of Temba Bavuma.

“Ironic that the coach allows some players who are clearly unfit and overweight to play when he started off as proteas trainer in 2009,” wrote Gibbs in the post that mentioned the fitness of Bavuma on X. Gibbs was a crucial part of SA in the 2000s. Till the late 2000s, the star batter was an integral part of the side that was one of the best sides in the world at the time.
