India skipper Rohit Sharma has taken an indirect dig at the Newlands pitch after winning the second Test against South Africa. In the one and a half days Test match, the home side won the toss and elected to bat first. They were bowled out in the first session on Day One at 55. In reply, the Asian side was going well at 153/4. However, in the next 10 balls, they were bowled out for 153, leading by 98 runs.

At the end of Day One, the Proteas finished 62/3, trailing by 36 runs. In the second and decisive day of the game, the home team was bowled out for 176 runs with Aiden Markram scoring a hundred. Chasing 79 runs, India lost three wickets but won the game and leveled the series 1-1. During the game, there was a lot of talk about the quality.

Sharma said that he doesn’t mind playing on such pitches as long as cricket experts across the globe don’t talk about the turning Indian wickets.

“I don’t mind playing on pitches like this as long as everyone keeps their mouth shut in India and doesn’t complain about Indian pitches. You come here to challenge yourself. And when people come to India it is challenging as well,” Sharma said after the second Test match.

Can’t believe that the World Cup final pitch was rated below average: Rohit Sharma

Apart from the game, the right-hander also spoke about the World Cup final pitch being rated as below. Notably, he was reported to have complained about the wicket alongside head coach Rahul Dravid.

“I still can’t believe that the World Cup final was rated below average. A batter got a hundred. How can that be a poor pitch?” he further added.

“I would love to see the chart match referees prepare while rating pitches. We know in India ball spins from Day 1, you are not okay. When ball seams from Day 1, you are okay. That’s not okay,” Sharma lashed out.
