Harbhajan Singh questions snub of Cheteshwar Pujara and Ajinkya Rahane after India’s loss against South Africa in Centurion Test
Former Harbhajan Singh questions snub of Cheteshwar Pujara and Ajinkya Rahane after India’s loss against South Africa in Centurion Test. In the Test match, India lost by an innings and 32 runs and did not give enough fight. The failure of batting in the middle order meant that many fans, experts, and former cricketers missed the services of the duo of Rahane and Pujara.
Harbhajan Singh seems one of them, who feels that the experienced batters should have been in the squad and the playing XI of India. The former Indian spinner questioned the snub of the two cricketers who he felt could have succeeded in the first Test. The former Indian cricketer added that there was no reason behind neglecting the two and criticized the selectors for not having them on the tour.
Harbhajan Singh claimed that the two batters scored runs everywhere. He further gave a controversial opinion that Pujara has had the same contribution on the side as Virat Kohli. “You didn’t select Ajinkya Rahane and have left Cheteshwar Pujara out for no reason. These are the two players who have scored runs everywhere. If you look at the previous record Pujara has the same contribution as Kohli had,” said Harbhajan.
‘We still don’t have a better batter than Pujara in Test cricket’ – Harbhajan Singh
The former Indian player added that he is clueless to not see the two in the Indian team. Harbhajan claimed that India does not have a better Test batter than Pujara. Harbhajan backed the playing style of Pujara and said that he might bat slowly but would help to save the Indian team in crisis. Harbhajan concluded by saying that Pujara helped India to win Tests in England and Australia.
“I am absolutely clueless why Pujara has been left out, we still don’t have a better batter than Pujara in Test cricket. He plays slowly but he saves you, because of him India won Test in Australia and England,” added Harbhajan. India will be playing the second Test of the series against SA at Cape Town where Dean Elgar will be playing his final Test for the home side.
