India and Pakistan clashed against each other in the 12th match of the ongoing ODI World Cup 2023 at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on Saturday, October 14. In the much-awaited clash between the arch-rivals, the Men in Blue produced a brilliant all-round performance and defeated Pakistan by 7 wickets.

Talking about the match, Pakistan’s openers got off to a brisk start after being put into bat, India’s bowlers weren’t quite on the boil straightaway and struggled for discipline. Mohammed Siraj in particular was carted around for a few boundaries and Pakistan were looking good. However, it was Siraj who got India their first breakthrough by dismissing Abdullah Shafique.

Imam-ul-Haq fell into the trap soon when they pushed deep point squarer and sucked him into the drive. Mohammad Rizwan and Babar Azam got to work after and steadied the ship by stitching an 82-run stand for the 3rd wicket. But once again, Siraj got rid of Babar with an absolute banger and that triggered an implosion of monumental proportions.

India now have defeated 8th time in the ODI World Cup

Kuldeep Yadav got rid of both Saud Shakeel and Iftikhar Ahmed in the same over and Jasprit Bumrah got Rizwan and Shadab out with dream deliveries. By then, Pakistan were already halfway down a dangerous slippery slope and there was only one way ahead. From being 155-2 at one stage, Pakistan crumbled to 191 all-out in the space of 13 overs.

Chasing the target, India suffered an early setback when Shaheen Afridi dismissed Shubman Gill in the 3rd over for 16 runs. However, those 16 runs came from only boundaries as she smashed 4 fours in his short innings. On the other hand, Rohit continued his brilliant form and played an amazing knock of 86 runs off just 63 balls which included 6 fours and as many sixes.

Virat Kohli was also looking well but he got out in the 10th over after scoring 16 runs. After this, Rohit then joined hands with Shreyas Iyer and stitched a 77-run stand for the 3rd wicket. Just when Rohit was nearing his century, Shaheen dismissed him on the score of 86 runs, however, the job was already done. Iyer also smashed his half-century and ensured India’s 7-wicket victory.
