Gujarat Giants suffer massive blow as Lauren Cheatle gets ruled out of WPL 2024
Lauren Cheatle is all set to miss the 2nd edition of the WPL 2024. The left-arm pacer has been ruled out of the major T20 league due to a treatment she would be undergoing in the upcoming days. Cheatle is set to undergo medical treatment to get cured of skin cancer. It is a huge blow for Gujarat Giants ahead of the WPL 2024.
The pacer from Australia has undergone several injuries in her career till now. Back in 2017 at the age of 19, Lauren made her debut for Australia. Since then, she has gone through several difficult situations including many injuries. In 2021, Lauren suffered a leg injury and had to undergo a similar surgery to be fit to play again.
The new treatment means that the 25-year-old will not just miss the WPL 2024 but will also miss the remainder of the ongoing Women’s National Cricket League (WNCL) for New South Wales. It is a huge blow for NSW as well, considering the skills Lauren brings to the table. The Australian domestic team confirmed the same by taking to a press release.

“Cheatle is aiming to return to training with NSW following the players’ scheduled off-season break,” said Cricket NSW in their statement. For the first time in her career, Lauren was picked in the WPL by a franchise. Gujarat showed interest in her and was picked in the WPL mini auction 2024.
After playing a lot for Australia in limited-overs cricket, Cheatle got to make her Test debut recently. In December 2023, Cheatle made her Test debut for Australia in a one-off match against India. It was a dream come moment for the youngster.
Ahead of the new season in September later this year, Cheatle is likely to return to cricket. It means that the talented pacer will miss out on the one-off Test match between Australia and South Africa. Cheatle has played only four ODIs and seven T20Is for Australia in her career spanning over 7 years.
