The performance of young players like Shamar Joseph, Kevin Sinclair, Joshua Da Silva, Alzarri Joseph, and Kavem Hodge helped the WI to script history at the Gabba. For the first time in the history of Test cricket, Australia have lost in a pink-ball D/N Test match. The performance of the West Indies has been lauded by fans in all parts of the world.

In the first innings, WI saw themselves at 65/5 at one stage. That was when the duo of Joshua Da Silva and Kavem Hodge framed a 159-run stand for the sixth wicket on the first day. It ensured the comeback of the visiting side in the Test match. Kemar Roach and Alzarri Joseph bowled good spells early in their 1st innings which helped WI to be in the game.

Shamar Joseph wins for West Indies despite injury

The knocks of Usman Khawaja, Pat Cummins, and Alex Carey ensured that the home side stayed alive in the match. The declaration from Cummins was questionable as Australia ended their innings with a score of 289/8. West Indies scored 193 runs in their 2nd innings with the contribution of their batters. 216 was the target to chase for Australia. Only Steve Smith showed some grit in the 2nd innings.

Defending 216, the visiting side saw an inspiration from Shamar Joseph who claimed 7 wickets despite an injured toe. Brian Lara has seen so many ups and downs in WI cricket from his playing days and now in the current scenario. It was evident why the former WI cricketer was emotional with the win which would have meant a lot for the WI cricket.
