The Group A game of the ongoing Asia Cup 2023 between India and Pakistan has been abandoned due to persistent rain. Ahead of the game, the Green Brigade had already announced their playing XI day ahead of the game. On the other hand, the Men In Blue kept their cards close to their chest. Meanwhile, in the game, India skipper Rohit Sharma took a bold decision and elected to bat first in overcast conditions.

During the first few overs, the former champions, India had two forced breaks due to rain. However, the team had a poor start as they lost four wickets with Shaheen Afridi and Haris Rauf sharing the spoils equally. The likes of Sharma, Virat Kohli, Shubman Gill, and Shreyas Iyer got out cheaply after the first rain break. At 66/4, the likes of Ishan Kishan and Hardik Pandya took the innings together.

Talking about Kishan, he has been criticized for his poor technique against the new ball. Not to forget, in the ODI series against the West Indies, his suspected technique was in question. However, in this game, the former India U19 skipper showed determination against the likes of Afridi, Rauf, Naseem Shah, etc. The left-hander amassed 82 runs including nine fours and two sixes.

On the other hand, Pandya, whose captaincy during the West Indies tour, amassed 87 runs including seven fours and a six. They put together 138 runs for the fifth wicket.

India reached a fighting total and got the first points in Asia Cup 2023

The duo’s partnership helped the team reach 266 all-out from 66/4. At one stage, they looked like getting past 300 runs. However, Kishan felt fatigued before getting out in the 38th over. In the last few overs, they lost wickets and were bowled out for this total. Notably, Jasprit Bumrah (16) showed some batting skills and annoyed the Pakistani bowlers. After India’s innings, it kept raining and the game was abandoned due to rain.
