At least four soldiers tragically lost their lives, and several others sustained injuries in an Army vehicle accident Bandipora when the vehicle skidded off the road and plunged into a deep gorge near Wular Viewpoint in Jammu and Kashmir’s Bandipora district on Saturday. Poor weather and reduced visibility were cited as key factors contributing to the Army vehicle accident Bandipora.

The Indian Army’s Chinar Corps confirmed the accident, thanking local Kashmiri residents for assisting with the evacuation of injured soldiers. “We express gratitude towards the citizens for their immediate assistance,” the Corps shared in a post on X.

Initially, three soldiers were declared dead. However, an update revealed that another succumbed to injuries during evacuation, raising the toll to four. Medical Superintendent Dr. Masarat Iqbal Wani explained that five injured soldiers arrived at District Hospital Bandipora. Of these, two were declared dead on arrival, while three critically injured soldiers were referred to Srinagar.

This tragedy followed a similar incident in Poonch district just a week earlier. In that incident, five soldiers lost their lives when a vehicle in a convoy skidded off the road near the Line of Control (LoC). Officials ruled out terrorist activity in both accidents.

Severe weather conditions across Kashmir have increased transportation risks. Dense fog blanketed the valley, and the Meteorological Department issued heavy snow warnings for the weekend.

  • Saturday: Yellow alert issued.
  • Sunday: Orange alert with predictions of significant snowfall.

Officials have urged residents to avoid unnecessary travel, citing potential disruptions to air and surface transportation.

The Indian Army extended condolences to the families of the deceased soldiers and stressed the need for caution during adverse weather conditions. This unfortunate incident highlights the challenges faced by Army personnel serving in the region during winter.
