Former Zimbabwe cricketer dies of cancer; Wife pens down emotional note

Former Zimbabwe cricketer Heath Streak has died of Cancer at the age of 49. He was struggling with the disease for the last six months. Notably, last month, Streak was rumored to have succumbed due to the disease. However, former Zimbabwe pacer Henry Olanga confirmed that the news was fake. However, this time around, Streak’s family has confirmed the news.

After the tragic incident, Streak’s wife, Nadine penned an emotional note on Facebook. She revealed that after being diagnosed with the deadly disease, the former cricketer wanted to spend his time with the family.

“In the early hours of this morning, Sunday, September 3rd, 2023, the greatest love of my life and the father of my beautiful children, was carried to be with the angels from his home, where he wished to spend his last days surrounded by his family and closest loved ones. He was covered in love and peace and did not walk off the park alone. Our souls are joined for eternity, Streaky. Till I hold you again,” Nadine Streak wrote on Facebook.

“Heath had not been well for a while, for almost six months he was battling cancer. He died in the early hours at 1 AM,” Denis Streak was quoted as saying by Sunday News.

Talking about Streak’s career, he played for Hampshire (Southampton-based team) and Warwickshire (Birmingham-based team) in County Cricket. He played 65 tests and 189 ODIs and has 1990 and 2943 runs respectively. With the ball, the former Kolkata Knight Riders bowling coach took 216 wickets (Tests) and 239 (ODIs). During his playing career, he became captain of the Chevrons twice (2000 and 2002) but left due to pay dispute and political turmoil in the Southern African country.
